During my training for Healing Touch, I was required to read and write reports on at least 15 books on health, wellness, spiritual/professional development, energy medicine, holism, ethics, journaling, quantum physics, and more! In order to better understand the work we are doing and how it all ties together in helping one achieve their optimal health and wellness goals, these books are essential. When I started to read some of the suggested books, I was hooked. I wanted to learn MORE! I ventured off the book suggestion page and started searching for topics that I wanted to learn more about.
I read dozens of books and found some to be just ok. Others completely blew my mind! My clients and friends frequently ask me for suggestions on what books they should read to find optimal health and wellness. Here is a list of 5 books that I believe are must -reads when you are on your path to self-awareness and healing.
“Mind Over Medicine”, By Lissa Rankin MD
In Dr. Rankins book "Mind Over Medicine", she provides irrefutable evidence and research studies that have been documented to prove that the mind has the ability to influence your healing ability. This book is perfect for those of you who are scientific and facts oriented. You want the proof! Well she provides it in multiple stories of spontaneous healings, the use of placebo drugs curing cancer, and fake surgeries that heal injuries. The common theme in all of these is that the person truly believed that they were going to be healed by the intervention provided. It is truly a testament to the power of positive thinking and creating your own reality. She describes how alternative treatments, prayer, and miracles all come into play with the body's ability to heal. She also offers up a prescription that you can write for yourself to discover how you can heal yourself. Top 10 books I've ever read.
“You Can Heal Your Life”, By Louise Hay
Louise Hay begins "You Can Heal Your Life" with the story of how she was cured from cancer with positive thinking, affirmations, and love. This is the first book I read when I began my Healing Touch Journey. It was incredibly eye-opening. She explains that if you begin your day with a negative thought or belief, you will experience that thought throughout the day. In my case, I was suffering from excrutiating headaches. I woke up first thing in the morning and thought, "Ughhh, today is going to be awful. My headaches are going to ruin my day and I won't be able to get out of bed." Guess what?? I would have horrible headaches and couldn't get out of bed. But when I changed my thoughts around to, "Today is a good day, my healing is in progress," I would have a wonderful day with less headaches and more energy. The affirmations she provides throughout the book can be used in almost any life situation or circumstance. From finding and attracting love, to healing your body, it's all here in this beautifully designed book. By the end of the book, you will have a blueprint of how you can heal your mind, body, and soul. I recommend this book to all of my clients.
“The Power of Now”, By Eckhart Tolle
Eckhart Tolle's message is simple in "The Power of Now". True happiness and enlightenment are created when you are living in the now. When you put limitations on your happiness or time frames, how will you ever become happy? "I will be happy when I have a million dollars." Well, what happens if you never make a million dollars, will you ever find happiness? In a world where we are hearing more and more about consciousness, you are given a guide on how to become more aware, more conscious of your thoughts and emotions to find long lasting peace and happiness. He also explains how accumulated pain and negative energy builds up over the course of our life through trauma, events, and experiences. This "pain-body" can be triggered and creates destructive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. He teaches us how to recognize our pain-bodies, accept them, and prevent them from taking over our lives. A very powerful read.
“The Four Agreements”, by Don Miguel Ruiz
Don Miguel Ruiz spreads Toltec Wisdom in his book "The Four Agreements". The Four Agreements are a way to live your life with respect, honor, and with the highest regard for yourself and others. The first agreement is “Be impeccable with your word”. This means to speak truthfully and honestly. Never gossip or speak badly or yourself or others. The second agreement is “Don’t take anything personally.” Nothing that others do to you is because of you. It is usually a problem they have with themselves and project it on you. The third agreement is “Don’t make assumptions”. Communication is the cornerstone of any strong relationship. When you assume you know what the other person is thinking, you miss finding the truth. The fourth agreement is “Always do your best.” When you follow these four agreements, you find that your life is full of love, truth, peace, and serenity. A shorter read, but of the highest quality.
“The Heart Speaks”, by Dr. Mimi Guarneri
Dr. Mimi Guarneri writes an enlightening book about how the heart is more than just a pump and an organ. It has innate wisdom that is affected by our thoughts, emotions, and spirit. In "The Heart Speaks", she provides scientific evidence of how heart disease can be the combination of stressors and life tragedies that can in fact break one’s heart. By dealing with our stress and emotions in a healthy, therapeutic way, the heart has the ability to heal itself. She also describes how Healing Touch helped one of her clients heal from heart disease. She incorporates Healing Touch into her practice as an Interventional Cardiologist and makes sure her patients receive it before and after their heart procedures. A doctor who focuses on the mind, body, spirit connection gets a rave review from this ICU nurse.
Happy Reading to you all and let us know what you think of these books once you finished them. If you have any books that you believe should be in our top 5, tell us about them! We are all on this healing journey together!
