The Sacral Chakra, the Seat of Emotions, is the second chakra in the Chakra System. It is located just above the Root Chakra, in the lower abdomen, 1-2 inches below the naval. Associated body parts include the hips, lower back, sexual and reproductive organs, bladder, kidneys and bodily fluids. It is associated with the element Water. The color of the Sacral Chakra is orange and it's complimentary color is blue. The gemstone associated with the Sacral Chakra is gold topaz and the animal symbol are fish or sea creatures.
Energy moves up through the Root Chakra into the Sacral Chakra where a fluid movement is created, stimulating the basic right to feel and have pleasure. The Sacral Chakra is the storage center for all experiences associated with love and hate. These feelings of acceptance or rejection from others and ourselves influence the relationships created in our lives. The purposes of the Sacral Chakra is to uptake universal energy and connect it to consciousness by turning it into manifesting energy or energy that attracts to produce happiness, self-love, healthy relationships, passion for living and sexuality. This chakra has a magnetic like force, attracting the reality that mirrors the feelings, emotions and thoughts we store there.
A balanced Sacral Chakra helps create positive realities with deep feelings, sexual fulfillment and healthy relationships with others. An open, healthy Sacral Chakra will manifest graceful movements, emotional intelligence, ability to experience pleasure, nurturance of self and others, healthy boundaries and the ability to change and go with the flow. Your emotions will flow freely and there will be a healthy balance between positive and negative outcomes within your life.
When the Sacral Chakra malfunctions, the need for love goes unmet and addictions and unhealthy relationships are created. Traumas and forms of sexual and/or emotional abuse, neglect or manipulation will also contribute to a congested, poor functioning Sacral Chakra. These traumas often lead to feelings of guilt, which further breaks down the Sacral Chakra. A congested Sacral Chakra will manifest as depression, frigidity, denial of pleasure, fear of sex or sexual dysfunction, addictions or obsessions, excessively strong emotions, disorders of reproductive organs, spleen and urinary system, menstrual problems, low back pain, knee trouble and lack of flexibility, codependency, fear of change, poor social skills and deadened senses.
In order to maintain a healthy Sacral Chakra it is important to incorporate healing practices into your daily routine. Try to practice a movement therapy like yoga, walking or stretching daily. Hula hooping is a great way to strengthen the abdomen while balancing the Sacral Chakra. Other healthy practices include emotional release or containment when appropriate, allowing a therapist to help you with inner child work or boundary work, 12-Step programs for addictions and assigning yourself time to enjoy healthy pleasures in life.
Eat healthy, organic orange colored fruits and vegetables like mangos, oranges, nectarines, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and carrots to keep the Sacral Chakra balanced. Any orange colored fruit or vegetable that gets a lot of sunlight while it is growing will be the most balancing to the Sacral Chakra.
Essential Oils that will help balance the Sacral Chakra are sandalwood, myrrh, bitter orange and vanilla. Also, being in or around water is a natural way to activate the Sacral Chakra, so fill up the bathtub, add some essential oils and enjoy the simple pleasure of bathing!
To strengthen and balance your Sacral Chakra, practice verbally repeating positive affirmations while you visualize a radiant, orange ball of energy filling in your lower abdomen. Some examples of affirmations include:
I trust that I am loved.
I accept myself just as I am now.
I deserve pleasure in my life.
I absorb information from my feelings.
I embrace and celebrate my sexuality.
I move easily and effortlessly.
Life is pleasurable.
