The Solar Plexus Chakra

March 26, 2014

The Solar Plexus is the third chakra in our chakra system and is located in the abdomen between the ribs. Energy enters this chakra from the Sacral Chakra below it. The color vibration of the Solar Plexus is yellow. The element associated with the Solar Plexus is fire.

The Solar Plexus is the center of personal power and the mental chakra. It is directly related to our emotional life as the mind and mental processes are regulators of our emotions. The main issues that surround this chakra are autonomy, individuation, our will, self-esteem, and sense of power in our immediate world. It’s purpose is in how we think, develop, and transform in discovering our purpose and passions in life.

The organs associated with the Solar Plexus are the spleen, stomach, pancreas, gall bladder, liver, digestion system, and mid back. It’s main endocrine gland is the Pancreas.

A healthy optimally functioning Solar Plexus will give one a strong sense of personal power, high self esteem, a strong identity, control and flexibility, a sense of direction, good digestion, healthy organs of the abdomen, will-power, and assertiveness in life. A balanced Solar Plexus will bring that person confidence, warmth in their personality, spontaneity, playfulness, and a sense of humor, along with appropriate self discipline, responsible, and reliable.

A healthy third chakra exhibits energetic vitality, enjoyment, and enthusiasm about life. Our sense of personal power gives us hope that we can have a positive outlook on life and a strong purpose. A strong self acceptance will manifest in the body as a strong physical health. When there is a strong sense of self, one is better able to cope and handle difficult and challenging circumstances that occur in their life.

When there is dysfunction in the Solar Plexus Chakra, possible diseases or illnesses that may occur include Diabetes, ulcers, digestive problems, chemical dependency and addictions, eating disorders, hypertension, and liver disease. Mentally and emotionally, a dysfunction occurring in the Solar Plexus will cause stress disorders and anxiety, poor self-discipline, low self esteem, unable to trust others, having a victim mentality, violent outbursts, typically angry, compulsive, and power hungry.

Healing Practices that one can use to strengthen their Solar Plexus Chakra include meditation, deep relaxation, yoga, martial arts, and psychotherapy. The goal of psychotherapy would be to work on building ego strength, techniques to handle stress and anxiety, work on shame issues, strengthen the will, and learning to release pent up anger.

Affirmations that work to open and balance the Solar Plexus include:

I honor the power within me.

I accomplish tasks easily and effortlessly.

The fire within me burns through all blocks and fears.

I can do whatever I will myself to do.

I am calm and peaceful at all times.

I am in control of my thoughts and reaction to life circumstances.
